Why Kids Sleeping Through the Night Is Good for the Whole Family

If there’s one question that every new mother gets constantly asked, it’s whether or not their baby is sleeping through the night. While we put a lot of emphasis on sleep, when you have a little one who wants to do anything but, it can make you feel like a failure.

There’s no denying the power that enough sleep can have for the whole family, so finding a solution is important for your health and happiness. If you’re ready to make a change and try to help your bub sleep for a longer stretch at night, there are a number of things you can try, and plenty of benefits to be found.

How to Help Your Baby Get A Better Sleep

All babies are different, so there’s never going to be one approach that works for them all. Just as we all require different things to help us relax and doze comfortably, so too do the littlest members of the family. Here are a few things you can try to help everyone get a good night’s sleep:

  • White noise – some mothers swear by a white noise machine which helps to drown out outside noises and create a calming effect for baby.
  • Temperature checks – if your little one is too hot or cold they’re more likely to wake during the night. 
  • Comfortable clothing – check there are no tags or sharp things in your baby’s bedclothes and that they fit them well.
  • Routine – establishing a simple routine of bath, singing, or story time, and then feeding, can help get your baby to relax for bedtime.
  • Medical conditions – there are a number of things which can cause problem sleep, from eczema to reflux. If you think there’s something more serious, speak to your GP.

The Restorative Power of Sleep

When you find success with helping your baby sleep a little longer, there’s no doubt that you’ll feel like an entirely new woman each morning. While it’s true that having a baby is the time in life when you can expect to miss out on catching as many z’s as you used to, there’s no need to suffer day in and day out due to a severe lack of sleep.
